Situation
Journalists and editors at Tribune Publishing needed to search content and store it in dynamic collections inside a proprietary CMS. The feature was for people assembling news under deadline, not for casual browsing.
Constraint
The CMS already had a taxonomy and workflows. A new module had to fit how editors already thought about stories.
Decision
I explored and designed a module that let editors create collections based on a customizable set of terms and conditions—rules, not one-off folders.
Outcome
Editors could build collections of news content from those conditions instead of hand-picking every item.
What I would do again
Design the query (terms and conditions) as the product, not the gallery view.
What I would change
I would have paired the design with a written spec of collection behavior (refresh, exclusions, permissions) so engineering and editorial shared a definition of done.
